The 33rd Annual exhibition of the Ohio Watercolor Society (OWS) features 77 works, and a diversity of style, subject matter and technique. The OWS received 276 entries into the jury process for the exhibition. John Salminen, NWS, AWS, DF, served as juror of selection and awards.

The OWS was founded in 1978 by a group of Ohio artists who were members of the American Watercolor Society, or whose works had been accepted in one of the exhibitions of A.W.S., N.W.S., or Watercolor U.S.A. Their mission is to advance the stature of watercolor as a major painting medium. The society sponsors this large, annual juried exhibition, as well as a full schedule of watercolor workshops, critiques, demonstrations and lectures.

The Canton Museum of Art’s historic commitment to the watercolor medium led us in 1990 to make it a primary focus of our permanent collection, and today we count among our holdings paintings by some of America’s finest watercolorists—a good many of them Ohioans, including OWS members.

Related Events:

OWS members will conduct watercolor demonstrations at the Museum’s First Stop First Friday,
from 5:30 to 6:30 pm, September 3 and October 1. The exhibit is free and open to the public on the First Friday.

A series of Sunday demonstrations by OWS members will be held at the Museum on September 5, 12, 19 and 26, from 2:00 -3:00 pm.
