Art Classes for Children

The CMA offers Young Artists Studio Classes throughout the year, with most courses beginning in mid-January, late-April/early-May, and September. With courses available in a wide range of media, scheduled for weekdays and weekends throughout the day and evening, there's a class to fit every schedule, budget, and interest!

 

Weekend Classes

Preschool Picasso (Pre-K – K)

C-100 6 Saturdays, Begins 2/6, 11:00 – 12:00 noon
Room 101A, Teacher: Roxanne Anderson
Parents join their little artists in this class! Each week, you and your child will be inspired by a famous artist, then create your own masterpieces. You assist your child in learning about color, line, pattern, and shape. Members: $40, Non-Members: $50.  Register Online!

Going Green (1st – 2nd Grade)

C-200 6 Saturdays, Begins 2/6, 1:00 – 2:30 pm
Room 101A, Teacher: Roxanne Anderson
Students will be inspired by the CMA exhibit Something from Nothing and work on projects involving the three R's. By Recycling and Reusing found objects they'll Reduce waste, help the Earth, and create amazing art! Members: $50, Non-Members: $60.  Register Online!
 

Drawing Basics (3rd - 5th Grade)

C-300 6 Saturdays, Begins 2/6, 10:30 - 12:00 noon
Room 101B, Teacher: Heather McKimm
Introducing basic drawing skills to younsters. We will practice rendering objects as basic shape, learn to use shading and tones, and even draw people! Members: $50, Non-Members: $60.  Register Online!
 

Sign Language (3rd - 5th Grade)

C-310 8 Saturdays, Begins 2/6, 11:30 pm - 1:00 pm
Room Library, Teacher: Mary Leary
Students will learn both the American Sign Language Alphabet and several ASL signs. Students will then apply finger spelling and signs in conversation, songs, and activities. Members: $70, Non-Members: $80.  Register Online!
 

Be a Master Artist (6th - 8th Grade)

C-400 6 Saturdays, Begins 2/6, 1:00 - 2:30 pm

Come enjoy a class where you’ll learn about famous artists and create your own unique artworks using the techniques they used! Artists covered in this class will include Chuck Close, Hokusai, Monet, Van Gogh, and more! Members: $50, Non-Members: $60.  Register Online!
 

Creative Clay (3rd - 8th Grade)

C-500 6 Sundays, Begins 2/7, 1:30 – 3:00 pm
Room 104, Teacher: Molly Martino
Come explore the endless creativity of clay in this fun and challenging class. Lean the basic techniques and make functional, decorative, and sculptural pieces that captivate the imagination. Limit of 8 students. Members: $50, Non-Members: $60.  Register Online!
 
 


Workshops For Kids


Valentine Workshop (2nd - 5th Grade)

Hearts and fun! Let's make and take some fabulous handcrafted Valentines. You can join traditional ideas along with your own creativity! Members: $15, Non-Members: $20.

Celtic Designs (4th - 7th Grade)

W-102 1 Sunday, 3/7, 2:00 - 4:00 pm
Room 102, Teacher: Dyan Boli
Explore copper foil tooling with this workshop. Embossing metal is a fun (and simple!) way to make low-relief art. Come spend an afternoon combining this art with Irish Celtic inspired designs. Members: $18, Non-Members: $23.

POLICIES

ENROLLMENT To ensure your class is running and to make your experience the best it can be, each class must meet its minimum enrollment level of six (6) students, seven days before the class start date. Be sure to register early to reserve your place and make your class a success!
FEES Class fees are due at the time of registration. You may mail in a check or credit card number with the registration form, stop in to the office and pay with cash, check, or credit card or call 330-453-7666 with your credit card number Senior Citizens (60 years & up) receive a $5.00 discount on all classes, except Tai Chi Ch’uan.
INSTRUCTORS Course instructors are subject to change without notice.
MATERIALS Materials are not included in most Adult Artists class fees. Please call 330-453-7666 to request a supply list. Materials are included in all Young Artists class fees. Special Note for Pottery Classes – Clay must be purchased here. The CMA will not fire clay purchased elsewhere. The cost is $35.25 for 25 lbs of stoneware and porcelain. The price of clay includes glazes, firing and tax. 25 lbs of stoneware should be purchased at time of registration. It will be available for your first class. Beginners’ tool kits and other tools are available here for nominal fees.
WITHDRAWL/REFUND POLICY To withdraw from a class and receive a full refund, you must contact the CMA (330-453-7666) seven days before the class start date. Full refunds for students withdrawing from a class after the registration deadline will be considered on a case-by-case basis. CANCELATIONS If the minimum enrollment requirement is not met, the class will be canceled. Registrants will be notified if the class is canceled 48 hours before the scheduled starting date and receive a full refund. In case of inclement weather, please watch WKYC-TV 3 or WOIO-TV 19, or go to http://www.wkyc.com for notifications of cancellations. Arrangements will be made for make-up classes at the end of the session.
