I ma
ke sculpture, wall art, and decorative vessels, and jewelry. The natural world is the inspiration for my work, the animals, the plants, and even the earth itself. My mediums are clay and glass, both of which are kiln fired. I use high-fire stoneware, saggar, and the raku firing process. I embrace a wide variety of techniques, and continuously experiment with new ones.
I strive to incorporate the natural plasticity of the clay medium and the unpredictable results of new and innovative kiln firing processes, which add a dimension of the unexpected to my work. This lack of control frees my work from the slavish adherence to a strictly realistic interpretation of my subject matter.
I find that the more I bend my will to that of the clay medium, and to the whims of the kiln firing process, the freer my results become, and they are greatly superior to anything I could have done on my own. Allowing the clay and kiln to facilitate my art has opened up many new and exciting possibilities for the continued progression of my work into the future.
