Artful Birdhouses

Offering this NEW one-time workshop at CMA! Blend craftsmanship with creativity and provide a cozy haven for our feathered friends. Students will assemble wooden pieces to construct their very own birdhouse, and then unleash their artistic flair with acrylic paint to decorate them. From whimsical designs to intricate patterns, participants will have the freedom to personalize their birdhouse, creating unique and eye-catching pieces of functional art. Ok-to-get-messy attire is suggested; aprons provided.

*Cost includes all supplies.
*Birdhouses may still be wet at the end of the workshop. Please make space in your vehicle to lay flat and bring something to set your artwork on like an old towel or box to protect your vehicle and prevent sliding. Families may also leave to dry and pickup on a future date.

Inspired by the mesmerizing ceramic sculptures in the exhibit "A Material World: Janice Jakielski's Impossible Objects." Jakieliski casts and manipulates ultra-thin porcelain sheets mimicking the look of paper. Through hands-on instruction, discover various paper-cutting and layering techniques inspired by Jakielski's unique forms to bring your own designs to life. Finish by binding your creations into pop-up books using needle and thread. Unleash your creativity and craft unique, three-dimensional masterpieces in this immersive workshop experience.

Offering this NEW one-time workshop at CMA! Workshop participants will learn the magical process of dyeing paper using tissue paper and water, discovering the vibrant hues and textures that emerge. Guided by our experienced instructor, participants will utilize their dyed paper to create stunning collages, incorporating shapes and patterns inspired by Ethel Magafan's painting "Meadows." Through close observation of the painting, students will draw inspiration from its organic forms and colors to infuse their collages with artistic depth. Additionally, we'll delve into the world of collage art further by reading Eric Carle's beloved book, "The Tiny Seed," offering additional insight and inspiration. Join us for a creative exploration of color, texture, and composition in this immersive workshop experience.
