Discover secret techniques that transform static landscapes into dynamic compositions. Life is defined by movement and energy, and this course will help you capture that vitality on canvas. Learn to infuse rhythm into your work—from the subtle motion of wind in wildflowers to figures captured in stride. We will focus on sketching distant figures using the classic Andrew Loomis method to create depth and scale. This course is an excellent opportunity to master water-soluble oils, a versatile, non-toxic medium that has been transformative for our students’ artistic practice. This mixed-skill studio environment encourages new students and those still developing their skillset to collaborate and learn from one another (see criteria below). Ages 16+

Beginner & Intermediate Students: Discover the core fundamentals of working with water-soluble oils. In this class, you will learn to paint-sketch distant figures using perspective, and set within a simple landscape. All essential materials—including water-soluble oils, canvases, brushes, and a palette with a knife—are provided with your tuition, though you are welcome to bring your own favorite tools.
