CMA will be closed to the public (except for all School of Art Students)March 31st through April 22nd, 2024, as we prepare our Spring/Summer Exhibitions.
Inspired by the exhibit, Through Darkness to Light: Photographs Along The Underground Railroad, learn about the history of ceramic face jugs (sometimes called "Ugly Jugs") and the important role they played along the Underground Railroad. Then create your own modern/ whimsical Ugly Jug --while learning additive and subtractive clay techniques. (Families will need to make arrangements to pick up fired pieces two-three weeks after workshop.)
Inspired by the exhibit, Through Darkness to Light: Photographs Along The Underground Railroad, learn about how constellations helped guide runaway slaves along their journey. Studying stars and other night sky patterns students will recreate celestial patterns to contsruct a glowing lantern with a battery lit tea light.
Every artist needs a sketchbook! Drawing in a sketchbook regularly is one of the best ways to build and improve drawing skills. Exercise your creativity as well as develop and record ideas for future works. Instructor Douglas Laubacher will share his expertise from working in the classroom and as a professional illustrator. Learn fundamental drawing skills through experimenting with a variety of drawing materials. Students will also visit the galleries to sketch on-site. Fill your sketchbook and push your drawing skills to a whole new level!
Parents, come play with your little artists as we draw, paint, sculpt, and create! Each week, students will learn about a master artist and create their very own masterpieces! Enjoy learning and playing with your little one as the CMA introduces them to the exciting world of art! Lessons change every session, sign up for multiple classes!
Parents & Toddlers are invited to join the CMA for a special- Art Play Date! Creep, crawl, slither and create during this tactile Art Play Date. Toddlers will use their bodies & get their hands dirty with a variety of art materials creating fun creepy crawly creatures!
Use porcelain clay and basic hand building techniques to make a beautiful pumpkin-shaped ceramic luminary. Make it silly, happy, elegant or spooky whatever you would enjoy the most! We will bisque fire it for you and when it is ready, you can take it home to paint. Receive a free LED tea light to illuminate your creation when you pick up your fired piece! All experience levels are welcome. (Students will need to make arrangements to pick up fired pieces two-three weeks after workshop).
