Students learn beginner‑friendly fiber‑art knots to weave a sturdy hand grip
near the top of a walking stick. Students will paint their stick with colors and designs that reflect their personality. This nature-inspired project has been used by explorers and storytellers in the natural world throughout history. The journey stick blends art, craftsmanship, and outdoor inspiration, giving each student a personalized and functional work of art for future adventures. Students will learn the art of “random weave” basketry as they shape natural vines
into a hanging basket. Once the basket weaving is completed, students will learn techniques for finishing the interior by lining it with burlap and moss for a woodland feel. Students will carefully plant a flowering plant inside and make a special gift card for Mom as the finishing touch— a handmade Mother’s Day surprise to treasure.
